Productive Things To Do If You've Been Furloughed With Back Pay

Imahe
One of the greatest benefits of full-time work is getting paid whether you work or not. I miss that. How awesome is it to paid when there is a snow day? How good does it feel when you're out sick or injured for a week and the paycheck continues to roll in? When you're sipping Mai Tais on the beach thanks to your four weeks of paid time off plus national holidays, life is pretty good! Now imagine if you got furloughed for a month or more during the holiday or busy season. What a wonderful opportunity to spend time with the people that matter the most to you. Although you miss the bi-weekly paychecks, you'll eventually get paid once the government reopens for business. Almost all government workers got paid during the previous government shutdown. Expect the situation to be no different during the 2019 shutdown. Now compare this work and pay situation with that of an entrepreneur or freelancer. If the entrepreneur doesn't work, and if his or her employees don't work, ...

Insurance Coverage and Falling Objects

Imahe
Falling Objects What if a meteorite or airplane parts fall from the sky and land on my vehicle?!? What should I do if a sheet of ice and snow comes off of another vehicle on the highway and hits my car causing damage?!? Our Massachusetts Auto policy tells us that there IS coverage under Comprehensive Coverage (Part 9), for losses caused by falling objects. What this means… Comprehensive Coverage is coverage for events other than collision. Events that are out of your control… Natural disasters: Earthquakes, Tornadoes, Hurricanes Fire Explosions Vandalism Theft Run-ins with animals, such as deer Broken Windshields (make sure you don't have a separate glass deductible) And last, but certainly not least in our case, here in New England: FALLING OBJECTS Falling Objects   If you carry Comprehensive Coverage (Part 9) on your policy, then you DO HAVE COVERAGE if your vehicle is ever struck by a falling object  (After your Comprehensive deductible is applied). If your car is struck by an ...

How Garden Furniture Can Extend Your Living Space

Imahe
Turn your garden into a living space with garden furniture. Here's how! Photos By: Living Etc. There's no doubt that Garden Furniture allows you to make the most of any outside space. This may be a lawn, patio, decking or just a balcony, and by adding furniture you will fully realize its potential to become a valuable extension of your home. Traditional or contemporary in design, you have a wide choice of materials, with different types of timber, rattan, stainless steel and all-weather fabrics all proving popular when creating a particular ambiance or complementing the existing landscape. Today's garden furniture is very much similar quality to the equivalent sofas and chairs you'll find in any lounge and, because it has to deal with adverse weather conditions, it's probably more robust and made from highly durable materials. The sheer range of garden furniture is impressive to say the least, with online garden furniture suppliers offering table and chair sets fo...

Weekend Inspiration: No. 43

Imahe
While I was out of the office between Christmas and New Years I spent a good part of my down time away from my computer, and I tried to limit screen time on my phone, too. Instead of keeping up with things on the web like I do most every other day of the year, I spent most of my days off with John shopping, taking neighborhood walks, and eating out. That said, I still allowed myself a little Internet leisure time. Scroll on to see what stood out during my holiday vacation! Weekend Inspiration: No. 43 1. We started working on another big living room makeover over winter break using almost entirely different furniture-the catch was that we wanted to only use pieces that we already owned so that it cost next to nothing to do! More on that soon, but the one thing we did buy for the space was this double wall sconce . I can't wait to share the before and after with you. 2. Another thing I freshened up over the holidays was my Instagram feed. I unfollowed a handful of profiles that no...

QUIZ: 9 Alcohol Cheats in Animation

Imahe
Brought to you by responsibility.org for their TalkEarly campaign.   In the past, animated films and shows were, um… rather boozy. A review of every G-rated movie created from the 30s up to 2000 said 47% showed alcohol consumption, and in that same period about 9% percent of all cartoons did as well. That's a LOT of drinking in kids' media. But times have been changing for a while. Nowadays, it's very rare that you'll see any alcohol references in children's animation. BUT! When they weren't allowed to show alcohol, writers and animators have cleverly tried to cheat the filters by simply replacing it with something else, so they could still show comical drunkenness, bar scenes, or savage hangovers. Let's see if you can guess which "kid-friendly" substitutes these cartoons used. Even if you completely strike out on all 9, it's pretty interesting!   What Was Used Instead of Alcohol?   1) The Secret Life of Pets (2016) Il...
